Effective Thursday, January 20: PCR Self-Swab Testing Discontinued

Sent on behalf of Tammy Wehrle, Joint Chief Practice Information Officer

Quick details

  • The GRH COVID Assessment Centre is experiencing lower volumes due to recent changes in guidelines for PCR testing eligibility
  • Effective Thursday, January 20, PCR self-swab testing for staff will end
  • As of January 20, staff who require PCR testing will be tested using the standard testing process and are required to book an appointment online

With restricted PCR testing eligibility, the COVID Assessment Centre is experiencing lower volumes with unfilled appointments daily. In order to maximize efficiency of the staff working at the Assessment Centre, PCR self-swab testing will end on Thursday, January 20.

Staff who require PCR testing can get tested via the Assessment Centre by driving through or choosing the walk-in service. As of January 20, staff are asked to follow the below process to get tested:

  1. Book an appointment online at the COVID 19 testing centre and appointments
  2. If there are no appointments available, call 226-806-5690 Option 4 to arrange a time to be tested. Staff will be accommodated for testing.
  3. Bring your hospital ID to your appointment.

Should volumes increase back to levels prior to the change in COVID-19 testing guidelines, we will reassess the need for the self-swab PCR testing for staff.
