Care Partner/Visitor Guidelines and Virtual Visit Support

March 1, 2022 update:

  • March 2: we will increase to two designated Care Partners per patient, and there is no longer a requirement that a patient be in hospital for a certain number of days before becoming eligible for a Care Partner visit.
  • Only one designated Care Partner may visit per day, for visits that are between 1-2 hours.
  • All other protocols remain in place (masking, physical distancing and care partners must be fully vaccinated). There may be different guidelines in some areas (e.g. children’s program) based on the specific needs of their patient population, and exceptions based on a particular patient or family circumstance.
  • Please ensure Cerner is updated with Care Partner information to support this change and reduce phone calls to your units from screeners.

November 9, 2021 update:

Care partners arriving to visit with, or accompany, a patient are required to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, along with government-issued ID. As a reminder, care partners are individuals identified by patients or substitute decision makers as being essential for a patient’s well-being and provide direction in care, and/or whose presence enhances their stay and contributes positively to their overall healing process.

We have developed some information to share with patients and families.

The Digital Services department has also developed some job aids to support you with setting up virtual visits.
